Albertus Webbink was born on October 26, 1826 to Gerrit Webbink and his wife, Janna Lamaker in Zenderen in the community of Borne, Overijssel.  His birth registration is shown in as No. 87 on Attachment 1.  It further states that Gerrit Webbink was a builder and Janna a housewife.

From records in Westerkappeln as depicted on Attachment 2.1 it looks quite possible that when Albertus left Delden, Netherlands, he did so with Albert Lütkenhaus, perhaps in fulfilling their journeyman requirement as wooden shoemakers.  Dr. Böhlke, archivist for Westerkappeln believes that before they arrived in Westerkappeln, they may have been in Coesfeld.  The notation “aus Born” on the attachment most likely refers to “Borne”, the larger town next to Delden.

Also, as noted by Brigitte Jahnke, historian for the Tecklenburg region, there was a third shoemaker in their party. In the registry for Westerbeck 09 (Attachment 2.2) the third wooden shoemaker, Bernhard Wolbert, arrived in Westerkappeln on the April 2, 1851 with the other two. He was 26 years old and moved (back) to Holtwick, Coesfeld district on October 1, 1851 where he probably was at home.

The three young men registered together, as can be seen in the registration numbers: 383, 384, 385. Because of the greater safety, it was common for the young men - if possible - to go on their journeyman ‘wander’ in small groups. There were no obligations and one was not necessarily acquainted with one’s fellow journeymen beforehand. On the way there was plenty of time to get to know each other. Attachment 3 (Engagement and Marriage Register from 1854) include the marriage (No. 20) of Albert Lütkenhaus to Catharina Maria Schroer on October 26, 1854.

Attachment 3

Albertus and Albert with his new wife apparently moved into Westerbeck 22 on February 19, 1855 as depicted on Attachment 4.

Attachment 4

Albertus married Catharina Maria Elisabeth Hackmann on July 8, 1859 in Westerkappeln as depicted on Attachment 5, archivist for Westerkappeln. Catharina Maria Elisabeth was born on January 7, 1837 the daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm Hackmann born September 14, 1795 and Catharina Margaretha Stallmanns born March 12, 1795. The Hackmann’s lived in a tenant farmer dwelling (“Heuerhaus”) at Westerbeck 26a that no longer exists. It was the only tenant dwelling on the Burland Farm in Westerbeck, today “Hügelstraβe 13”. The Heuerhaus probably was in the immediate vicinity of that address.

Then as depicted on Attachment 6, Albertus was registered at this address as of September 30, 1859 with the addition of their son, “August Heinrich” born January 1, 1860. This attachment also shows that Catharina Maria Elisabeth may have worked as a maid in various households from 1847 to 1858 (Cappeln No. 63 and 19, Westerbeck 25, Cappeln 58) returning to Westerbeck 26a between work periods. Further on January 24, 1860 her father, Friedrich Wilhelm died which may have led Albertus and Catharina Maria Elisabeth with their newborn to depart Westerbeck 26a on September 14, 1860 for America.

Postscript:
https://www.wiewaswie.nl/nl/zoeken/ is a good website for genealogical research in the Netherlands.   A search for "Lutkenhaus" turned up hits in the Netherlands, Overijssel and Almelo,  but no Albert Lütkenhaus was found
